May 15 (Reuters) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday banning tax dollars from being used in state colleges for diversity, equity and inclusion programs (DEI) in a sweeping measure that also places restrictions on classroom discussion of race. While DEI programs are meant to assist in building racial, social and religious diversity among university faculty and students, the governor and other conservative critics have said they promote left-wing politics and sow racial divisions on campuses. "DEI is better viewed as standing for discrimination, exclusion and indoctrination," DeSantis said at the bill signing on the campus of New College of Florida, a public liberal arts college, on Monday. DeSantis, who is expected to launch a presidential bid later this month, has positioned himself as a leader in that fight. DeSantis said students who want to study diversity subjects should look at universities outside the state.

The two airlines have collectively dropped 55 regional airports since the COVID-19 pandemic. "Delta continues to evaluate the regional market, monitoring regional carrier pilot availability and customer demand. After Delta pulls out, La Crosse Regional Airport will still be connected to Chicago by American Airlines. The four airports are the latest in a long list of regional airports that were abandoned by major airlines as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Including the airports cited above, Delta has dropped 17 regional destinations and United 38 regional destinations since the beginning of the pandemic.

More than 15 billion political texts were sent in 2022 according to call-blocking service Robokiller — about 50 messages for every phone in the country. Political texts spiked last fall during the run-up to November’s midterm election. Republican campaigns and groups sent the bulk of political texts sent in 2022, Robokiller’s data shows. Even if they don’t recall consenting to political texts, voters have limited options for revoking it. Political texts are not subject to the federal Do Not Call registry, which allows consumers to opt out of telemarketing calls and text messages.
